Er.. well maybe. New evidence has come to light that the vast, ice-encrusted oceans of Europa may be harboring Earth-like life that lives on the oxygen-rich waters. So that means that there's lots more oxygen in the water to support larger creatures, like fish. Or like giant fucking Jupiter squid. Maybe there's just one giant Leviathan living under the ice of Europa. Fuck... there could be.

Right now, the best way to find exoplanets is to look for teensy tiny variations in the star's light that are caused by a planet or two passing in front of it. But there may be a better way-- checking out the star's chemistry. It turns out that a star with planets orbiting around it has a slightly different and discernable chemistry than those that are barren.

Physicist Axel Mellinger spent nearly two years traveling 26,000 miles across South Africa, Texas and Michigan and what does he have to show for it? Well, he's cobbled together a stunning 648 megapixel panorama of the Milky Way as seen from Earth, using 3,000 individual photographs. The Central Michigan University professor wants to make the image available for planetariums, as it's large enough to serve educational purposes. It even shows stars that are 1,000 times too faint to be seen by the human eye, so this is a Milky Way like you've never seen.

With the repairs to Hubble having been completed months ago, we finally get a look at some brand new incredible deep space images. God damn I'm gonna miss Hubble when it finally dies. What's known is that Mars used to have a magnetic field just like Earth, but what is not known and still only speculated on is exactly what happened to Mars' magnetic field. However new research suggests that a massive asteroid may have jolted the core of the planet to turn off the magnetic field like a switch.
Mars once had a magnetic field, which may have been driven by a dynamo formed from the convection of material in the core, much like the Earth's is today.
