I can fucking hear you already... "Well, it would look like Earth. With rings." Yeah smartass, that's right. But some guy rendered not only what Earth would look like from the outside if it was a ringed planet, but also what the rings would look like from various points on Earth looking up. Holy fuck, I want a ringed planet now. That looks so badass.

A Minneapolis dad, for the first three years of his child's life, has only spoken Klingon. And the odd part? The dad, d'Armond Speers says he isn't even really a Trek fan-- he's just a hardcore linguistics geek who has a doctorate in computational linguistics and acts as an advisor to companies that develop language translation software. So basically, he just thought it would be cool to do a linguistics experiment on his kid. Hell yeah.

If you've got clear weather late tonight, you might be able to see the Leonid meteor shower as Earth passes through the comet Tempel-Tuttle, which passes through the inner solar system every 33 years on its orbit around the sun. The best view will be in Asia, but if you're in North America you should be able to get a glimpse of the shower between 1am and dawn.

This is a photo of a dinosaur fossil exhibit at the Jurassic Museum of Asturias in Asturias, Spain. The Spanish obviously know what keeps people coming to museums-- dinosuar sex. Just like you get Cinemax for the fucking and you go to the zoo for the fucking, I'm sure more museums could stop whining about low attendance if they just added more dino sex.

Right now, the best way to find exoplanets is to look for teensy tiny variations in the star's light that are caused by a planet or two passing in front of it. But there may be a better way-- checking out the star's chemistry. It turns out that a star with planets orbiting around it has a slightly different and discernable chemistry than those that are barren.

The NTSB recently released the flight data of the US Airways Flight 1549 that had to ditch in the Hudson back in January into the public realm, and from that data, the team at ExoSphere 3D created an amazing CG simulation of the crash. I fucking love how incredibly cool Captain Sullenburger is as air traffic control is trying to free up runways for him and he just says "Nope, we're going into the Hudson."

No, seriously... don't try this at home, even if watching your dumbass jaw freeze and drop off would be funny. Today, November 9th would have been Carl Sagan's 75th birthday. To celebrate the life of the legendary astronomer, the best we can offer is to offer you a couple of great Sagan videos. It's not much, but it's what we've got. The first video is Carl Sagan's last interview, with Charlie Rose in 1996, shortly before his death from myelodysplasia at the age of 62.

The normal procedure for having any sort of open heart surgery had been that you stop the heart, pump the blood through a heart-lung machine to keep the patient alive, hack away at the stopped heart, patch it up, run blood back through it. And then research found that perhaps operating on a heart that was still beating was perhaps better for the patient in the long run...
