Don Bluth crowdfunding a Dragon’s Lair movie. Wait, what year is this?

In 1983, animator Don Bluth rocked the shit out of the video game world with the release of Dragon’s Lair, bringing high quality cel animation to games that otherwise consisted of large, blocky pixels. Dragon’s Lair has since been released on nearly every game platform and is one of only three games (along with Pong and Pac-Man) in permanent storage at the Smithsonian. Dragon’s Lair was a huge fucking deal. In the mid 1980s.
Since Dragon’s Lair, Bluth released Space Ace in 1984 as well as numerous Dragon’s Lair sequels, but has mainly focused on full length feature films such as An American Tail, The Land Before Time, and The Secret of NIMH.
And now Don Bluth has returned, with the intention of bringing Dragon’s Lair to the big screen via Kickstarter crowdfunding. Part of me is slightly excited, part of me thinks this would have been way cooler in the late 80s.
