General Firearm Season starts Saturday… so I was sighting in a basic 1.5-4.5x32 on my SIG 716 Piston AR-10. For some reason I had forgotten my brass catcher so I used a provided brass backstop. Since my brass goes forward at a slight angle you can see it in the picture. I was using the back corner of my bag for my right elbow rest and most brass was landing on the bag.
I was on round 6 of my 10 round zero confirmation at 50 yards when this happened. The only thing that makes sense is that the brass bounced off the backstop and right back into the ejection port… from over a foot away and in 1/100th of a second.
What else could it be? You can see the small dent 1/3 from the rim where it hit the back edge of the ejection port on its way out. How else could this piece of brass end up like this… how else could it have tumbled 180 degrees and get wedged into this position?
tl;dr WTF?
EDIT: Forgot to mention the best part: one of my friends actually asked me if I had loaded the round in backwards. I’ve never facepalmed so hard before.
