As accounts of the horrors of the holocaust poured in, the US tightened immigration policies to prevent Jewish refugees from entering due to national security concerns. Syrian refugees are Muslims that rejected ISIS and escaped its clutches. When we turn those refugees away we show everyone in Syria that escape is not possible. We show them that ISIS must be obeyed. The world is full of horrors, and it is okay to be frightened and confused. But when we refuse to help the victims of those horrors we do not make ourselves more secure, we make ourselves parties to the slaughter.
