My neighbor owns a landscaping business that does contract snow removal with VDOT in the winter. I don’t need the money, but I help him on occasion when he needs the manpower. He always sticks me in this Rear wheel drive POS because I’m supposedly one of the better drivers he knows (rear wheel drive plow… not fun or easy). Can’t keep the clock going if the truck has to stop.

For some dumbass reason he and VDOT have this truck on back dirt roads… hills.. turns.. wtf. At 04:45 this morning I get stuck for the 9th and final time on only hour 4 of my shift. The problem was that the cross streets (responsibility of others) weren’t getting plowed.. and I kept getting stuck. This time.. the rear end slid into a ditch.

’Thankfully’ one of the other guys in the neighborhood rolled his plow (no one was hurt)… but was part of a bigger company that sent backhoes to flip and dig him out. I gladly lent them my chains and they were nice enough to dig me out and even help push me the 4 ½ miles to the nearest main road… through the foot of snow that had already built up on these dirt roads.

After finally getting onto the main road I had to basically help plow it to get myself back to my neighborhood. Larger trucks than mine were stuck, in ditches, and rolled everywhere… Heavy machinery like graders and backhoes were pulling out vehicles and doing the majority of the snow pushing.

Truck on a road it shouldn’t be on… I don’t leave it and instead spend 10 ½+ hours, getting stuck another dozen times, but get it the ~20 mi back home… undamaged and not having to pay hundreds for a tow after the snow melts/clears enough to get to it a couple days from now. I get bitched out because I’m the asshole: after getting stuck he couldn’t keep billing the hours to VDOT.

I don’t think I’ll be helping him in the future.
